A Writer Called Eliza
Bookworm For Life
I really love books. Since I can remember there has been something comforting about the smell of them, the scent of them, the feeling of walking int a building which is full of them. Fiction, fact, contemporary, period - all of them offer me portals into worlds that could exist, did exist, do exist. All of which can become mine at the turn of a page. Here’s to books.

So I recently baked a delicious buttercream and apple cake this week that I am extremely proud of. Looking forward to post the recipe if other people would like to bake the same. It was absolutely lush :)
As per some requests from friends and readers especially fireashandflames, I enclose the recipe for my scrumptious Buttercream and Apple Cake.
Recipes adapted from ‘Nosh for Students’ by Joy May and Tate and Lyle.
Ingredients
Buttercream
75g (3 oz) butter
175g (6 oz) icing suger
a few drops of vannila essences milk or warm water
Method
place the butter in a bowl and beat until soft. Gradually sift and beat in the icing sugar, then add the vanilla essence and enough milk or water to five a fluffy consistency. This amount of butter cream is sufficient to cover and fill a 15 cm (6 in) cake or cover the surface of an 18 cm (7 in) cake
Apple Cake
150g butter
3 eggs
2 medium sized apples
1 and a 1/2 mugs of self-raising flour
1/2 mug of raisins
ground nutmeg
ground cinnamon
Butter/oil for greasing
UTENSILS:
Oven
Baking pan
Wooden spoon
Bowl
Grater
Peeler
Metal spoon
Method
Grease a baking tray. Put the oven on for 180 degrees. Mix the sugar and cinnamon in a mug.
Peel the apples. Cut into fours. Take out the cores and grate.
Cream together butter and milk in a bowl with a wooden spoon. Add the eggs and beat well.
Fold in the flour with a metal spoon. Add the raisins. Fold in also. Add the apple and stir together.
Turn into the baking tray and spread evenly.
Bake in a preheated oven for thirty minutes. You will know if the cake is ready when a knife inserted comes out clean. The top should be browned.
Leave to cool.
Spread the buttercream over the cooled cake.
Cut into slices and serve.
Yum!
Anonymous asked: Couldn't comment on Tumblr so answered on your 'Ask Me' tab. Family and good food and a warm bed. People who love you. (answer to question 3). Truth: Have you ever wet the bed? or Dare: Take a picture of yourself licking a raw onion. Kelly from Manchester.
Thanks for your question Kelly!!!
Tumblr are still working out how to do comments.
My answer is - YES. I HAVE. But decidedly, I was 8 at the time. Gross :)
Thank-you for your question.
Eliza.

This is my response to a post by one of my favourite all-time artists, Patrick Stump:
Patrick. You are amazing. The hardest thing in the world is that so many idiots get so much airtime, whereas the rest of the people who think you are truly a unique, inspirational, positive and talented artist, stay on the sidelines cheering you on with invisible karma. As the words to ‘Cryptozoology’ say - you don’t ‘have to prove yourself’. The truth is - the hate is not personal. I’m a 24-year old college lecturer and the barrage of hate I’ve received by simply wanting to help, to be useful in society, to enable young people mirrors the hate you’ve received by just being you.
Fall Out Boy was an integral part of my teenagehood and my adult life. The music has this brilliant way of inducing both pathos and being simultaneously uplifting. The truth is. Out there, in the world more people would rather tear other people down than build them up. They would rather spread hate and anger than spread love and encouragement. They are generally selfish. They project their inadequacies at the next face that passes. And being in an internationally touring band has made your face pretty visible.
I can’t imagine how much that hate hurts. Your human. It’s all personal for you. But, I have to add my comment as the 501st and say that there has not been a ‘Fall Out Boy’ album that didn’t define my year that it was released. Now with ‘Truant Wave’ and then ‘Soul Punk’ the track record continues. In my opinion ‘Folie a Deux’ spoke to me more deeply than all the other FOB albums combined. But I LOVE them all.
With ‘Truant Wave’ and ‘Soul Punk’ you are being truly individual, truly, utterly original. The music has a newness to it that is so rare in this world of homogenized pop mulch.
I don’t know you, but I love you for the music.
I don’t think it’s right for you to disappear. Not like this. Not quite yet.
But I do think you have to do the right thing for you at this time in your life. If you love touring, tour. If you love making music, then make it.

There’s this really nice piece at underthegunreview.net by Jacob Tender that a friend forwarded me today. It’s about how important Fall Out Boy’s album “From Under the Cork Tree,” was to him. After reading it though, nostalgic and well-written as it was, I really found myself more depressed than…

Impress me, good luck
Impress me, good luck
Impress me, good luck
Impress me, good luck
I’m not from Williamsburg or Silver Lake
Does anybody have any other obvious complaints?
Stop trying to get it
Cause it can almost hear you trying to hard yeah
They saw the shadow of a figure in the night
Something unhuman fleeing from the scene of the crime
Those little flashes
Just wreak havoc on the mind
I don’t have to prove myself to you
I don’t have to prove myself to you
You’re standing with your arms crossed
Nose turned up like you’re saying
Impress me, good luck
Impress me, good luck
And I don’t have to prove myself to you
They got the search party looking for the ghost of the child
But what if he grew up? He never died
In these old haunts you get the eery little feeling
Like you’re under dead eyes, yeah
Cryptozoology, you just might exist
Call me in the morning if that misconception still persists
Some days I may express myself in curious ways
I don’t have to prove myself to you
I don’t have to prove myself to you
You’re standing with your arms crossed
Nose turned up like you’re saying
Impress me; good luck
Impress me; good luck
But I don’t have to prove myself to you
I don’t have to prove myself to you
I don’t have to prove myself to you
You’re standing with your arms crossed
Nose turned up like you’re saying
Impress me; good luck
Impress me; good luck
I don’t have to prove myself to you
Epic! What I wouldn’t give to have these on my xmas tree.
